Pentecost. Surely if these devout Jews made the trip from their homelands to Jerusalem, they were bilingual enough to understand the lingua franca. 'Hearing the wonders of God in their own languages' probably wasn't necessary for comprehension. So why did God do it? What does it mean?
When I was in Botswana in March, Pastor "Mel" spoke of Bible translation as a kind of healing. He comes from an ethnic group at the bottom of the social ladder--despised, shamed, wounded, discriminated against in thousands of ways. When his people hear Jesus speaking their language, it heals those wounds in a profound way.
