Presidential elections in DRC are scheduled for Nov 28. Political demonstrations are taking place as part of the process and these are being repressed violently, with loss of human life. People are living in fear of what tomorrow will bring. There's a lot of insecurity in the capital Kinshasa as well as throughout the country. For example, in Goma (where we have been working), a man was arrested for having refused to sing a song in praise of the incumbent. His people protested and the military responded violently with gunshots throughout the city. The man was then taken to a remote part of the city and tortured nearly to death. He's now at hospital being treated.
These sorts of clashes are spreading throughout the country. Travel within the country is becoming very difficult because everyone is afraid and the planes are full. The political candidates are not able to carry out their campaigns.
Our brothers and sisters in Congo ask that we pray with them through these dark days.
Here in South Asia, I've completed my first stop in Nepal, which went very well. There is a lot of interest in and need for Trauma Healing here, and the national Bible Society and church leaders are now working out how best to respond. Seeds have been sewn; now to let them sprout.
Thanks for your prayers. Off to Delhi at noon.
Hello Harriet. Could you email me? I don't have your current email address... unless it is still with SIL, and I am guessing not. And you may have given me Carmel's email, but I can't find it, so can you send me hers, too?
ReplyDeleteThanks - Dawn H.
