Contrasting situations during my first week in Brisbane: Churches in the Solomon Islands are like sponges ready to absorb Scripture and Bible teaching. 17 language groups have the New Testament and now need to learn how to use them. A very ripe harvest--who can help? Meanwhile, two of our SIL women who have worked among the Australian Aborigenes for 25 years in Bible translation and literacy told of their challenges, and continue to pray for a break through among these demoralized people.
I got to fly in a missionary plane to the SIL center in Papua New Guinea. For the first time, around 80 top leaders from all the churches came together around the topic of Scripture Engagement in the church and committed to work together so that all the people in PNG, both those in the cities and in the villages, could engage with Scripture. Natural gas has been found in their country which will more than quadruple the national budget in the coming years. Church leaders are concerned that the country be prepared. Trauma Healing may be a part of their programs. God's spirit is moving in unprecedented ways--a historic moment in time.
